Kosta Browne Visits OIC

By September 9, 2016 No Comments

Dan Kosta of Kosta Browne Wine made a special appearance at OIC recently and shared a little history and a little wine with a small group of OIC friends and customers. It was twenty years ago that Dan Kosta and Micheal Browne decided to save their money and start making wine. According to Kosta, “The first barrel of wine was a success and encouraged us to keep going.” Kosta shared the inspiration behind Kosta Browne Wine, more about their love for Pinot Noir along with a handful of wines for tasting including these hard to find bottles:

    • 2013 Russian River Valley Chardonnay
    • 2014 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
    • 2012 Gaps Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir
    • 2014 Russia River Valley Pinot Noir

“We’ve just always loved Pinot Noir because it goes so well with food. It’s not a heavy-handed wine, it’s got a lot of elegance to it,” said Kosta. “We decided to make wine in 1997. It started with one barrel of wine and it just grew from there.”

Kosta Browne Wine uses a variety of vineyards in key appellations throughout California. “We’re not buying for mediocrity,” said Kosta. Having made wine for 20 years, Kosta Browne has spent a fair amount of time getting to know each of the vineyards and have come to select not only those that have especially good grape quality, but are also extremely consistent and unique.

Clare Gillette, a wine and spirits specialist for Pinnacle Imports said, “Kosta Browne is kind of the crème de la crème when it comes to the California Pinot that we represent. It’s a pretty cool honor to sell these bottles into restaurant placements, because that’s really the only place you’re going to find these great and rare wines.”

Guests enjoyed the wine along with a family style dinner all while enjoying Dan Kosta’s interesting narrative of the history of Kosta Browne Wine.
