Southern California arts and entertainment writer Paul Hodgins spends two weeks in Kansas City every summer teaching – and “visiting all the best bars and restaurants” the city has to offer. In his recent article, “Kansas City is the Midwest’s best watering hole,” published in the Orange County Register, Hodgins selected Osteria Il Centro as one of his “Top Five Recommended Stops” on a trip to Kansas City.
Hodgins raves that in Kansas City there are “a few bars and restaurants with wine lists that are as extensive as any I’ve seen in Southern California.” He continues, “A few blocks west of the University of Missouri campus, a regular haunt of mine, Osteria Il Centro, is a charming, Mediterranean-style bistro that dishes up great Italian food at prices you’ll never see in O.C. Don’t let the quiet, nondescript neighborhood or modest storefront fool you. Behind the old stone façade you’ll find 18 consecutive Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence plaques. Its global reserve wine list contains more than 10,000 bottles.”
We’re humbled for the high praise – and welcome a visit from Mr. Hodgins any time he flies from SoCal into KC. A little good news for Kansas City locals, though: There’s no need to for a plane ticket to enjoy a nice bottle of vino along with delicious Italian cuisine – all at affordable prices. Osteria IL Centro’s extensive Reserve Wine List and full menu are available in South Plaza six nights a week!
Choose your favorite bottle from our celebrated list of over 1,000 and enjoy our decadent Italian cuisine in an intimate neighborhood atmosphere. Try our marinated and grilled lamb chops – or crepes filled with sautéed chicken, spinach and mushrooms, topped with tomato cream sauce (just two of our many entrees that are absolutely “delizioso”)!
Hop in the car (no need for a plane), and make that special – and short – trip to one of the “Midwest’s Best”: Osteria Il Centro!
