Rocca di Castagnoli Wine Tasting + Photos

Angelo Dalbello, from Rocca di Castagnoli, made a special visit to Osteria Il Centro recently to share their history, and of course impeccable Chianti wine, with some of OIC’s wine club members.

“We are speaking about something related to people,” Angelo exclaimed. “Wine is something that is produced by workers, by people, for people. So, in the end, we are speaking about human values.”

Angelo went on to share the inspiration, philosophy, and history behind Rocca di Castagnoli wines, along with a few wines for tasting:

  • Ca Furlan Prosecco
  • Chianti Classico – 2014
  • Chianti Classico Riserva – 2011
  • Stielle Toscana Rosso IGT – 2009
  • Stielle Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG – 2010
  • Buriano Cabernet IGT Toscana – 2010

Rocca di Castagnoli has existed for almost 1,000 years, with documents dating back to the 11th Century. The winery’s rich history has inspired a philosophy that includes always providing high value. Rocca di Castagnoli has converted to organic farming and keeps a keen eye on product quality and healthy work environment.

According to Angelo, “We don’t just see a customer, we see someone on the other side that is like us and wants the same things as we do. We don’t just want to sell wine, we want to communicate who we are, our values, and a place that is beautiful year-round.”

Rocca di Castagnoli is located at the heart of historic Chianti, Italy – the vineyards are set amidst woods, olive groves and rows of regal cypress trees, looking out over a hilltop. The winery is built partially underground – below a fortress – set atop a 650-yard field.

Angelo describes the unique attributes of Rocca di Castagnoli: “Very steep slopes and a special microclimate create a big gap between the high and low daily temperature. In the summer, we have a peak of 105 degrees and around 75 at night. This produces an acidity that gives our wines a very long life.”

OIC Wine Club members enjoyed tastings from several great bottles along with hors d'oeuvres from Osteria IL Centro Chef Jaime Salgado as Angelo enchanted guests with the fascinating history behind Rocca di Castagnoli wine.
