Dakota Shy Wine Tasting a Hit!

The OIC Wine Club’s most recent tasting featured Todd Newman of Dakota Shy – a vineyard named in the November issue of Wine Spectator as one of “The Rising Stars in California Cabernet.”

Wine club members sampled three different wines including Dakota Shy’s newest, Atlas, a wine usually available only at the estate. Todd Newman made an exception for Kansas City. “I’m starting to come to this city more and I’m really falling in love with it”, Newman said. Next up was Dakota Shy’s, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, “The heartbeat and soul of Dakota Shy” said Newman.

The reds were followed up with “McKenna’s White Blend” – a wine named after Newman’s own niece. The wines were deliciously accompanied by hors d'ouevres and small plates from Osteria IL Centro Chef Jaime Saldago. Guests enjoyed special bottle pricing and stocked up on their favorites at the event while learning a little more about Todd Newman.

Until now, Dakota Shy had only been available on the wine list at one other restaurant in the country, the perennial Wine Spectator Grand Award winner and often lauded French Laundry, located in San Francisco’s Napa Valley. Osteria IL Centro is pleased to be only the second restaurant in the country to offer Dakota Shy as part of our own Reserve List.

Although this was first time Dakota Shy has been offered in Kansas City, several OIC Wine Club members had tasted Dakota Shy on prior Napa wine trips. In fact, a couple of OIC Wine Club members actually played an important role in OIC’s invitation, and ultimately, Todd Newman’s trip to KC.

Many thanks to all of the OIC Wine Club Members who joined us for this special occasion!
